Hydroponics System
My sponge has grown algae and mold. How can I prevent this?
If your plants are still small, you can try reseeding with the following steps:
- Remove the old plants, thoroughly drain and rinse the water tank. Discard all sponges or plants that have been in contact with mold/algae, and clean the used planting baskets and lids. Keep all accessories used in the system clean and place new sponges in the baskets.
- Plant 2-3 seeds in each new sponge.
- Apply green light-blocking stickers (this helps prevent algae growth).
- Cover with a clear seedling cover (this helps maintain humidity and moisture during the germination stage).
- Place the light panel about 4-6 inches away from the plants.
- Once the seeds have grown 2-3 leaves, remove the clear seedling cover. For larger plants like tomatoes, keep only the best-growing seedling in each sponge. For smaller plants like herbs, keeping 1-2 seedlings per sponge is sufficient.
If your plants are already mature, you can use a cotton swab dipped in hydrogen peroxide, then apply it to the surface of the sponge where algae or mold is growing. This can eliminate and inhibit the growth of mold.
Only a small portion of my plants is growing & my plants have wilted.
The quality of seeds plays a crucial role in plant growth. For optimal results, we recommend purchasing seeds from reputable brands and supermarkets, ensuring the growth temperature of the plant is suitable for your current environment. Store seeds in a cool place or in the refrigerator. Here are our suggestions for selecting seeds:
- Check the expiration date of the seeds when purchasing.
- Avoid buying and using white or green seeds. Look for quality seeds in darker colors like gray, brown, or black.
- Examine the surface of the seeds. Look for seeds that appear glossy and reflect light. They should also have a firm and smooth texture.
- Consider the symmetry and shape of the seeds. Look for seeds that are symmetrical and teardrop-shaped, as deformities or unevenness may indicate poor quality or immaturity.
Wilting plants could also be due to excessively high nutrient concentration. Ensure the correct ratio of nutrient solution to water to avoid high concentrations. Additionally, maintain about a 4-6 inch distance between the LED light panel and the plants. If you're unsure why your plants are wilting, feel free to send us pictures or ask other members in the LetPot community. We would be more than happy to help.
The seed pods show some kind of fungus when germinating
Please check the quality and storage of the seeds first. If it's not a seed issue, follow these steps for planting:
- 1. Plant 2-3 seeds in each pod.
- 2. Cover with the green light-blocking sticker, remove the central circle.
- 3. Cover with the transparent germination dome (remove when 2-3 leaves appear, no need to remove the sticker as plants will grow through it).
- 4. Position the light about 4 inches away from the seeds (6-8 hours of light during germination is sufficient).
For larger seeds like spinach, beet, and cilantro, you can germinate them on a moist paper towel in a sandwich (transparent) bag first. Once they sprout, gently transfer them to the sponge pods using tweezers or your fingers. This helps improve germination rates and reduces mold.
Can the sponge be reused?
We do not recommend reusing sponges, as their effectiveness may not be as good as when first used. Moreover, reusing old sponges might introduce bacteria and potentially lead to diseases. However, to support environmental sustainability, the white baskets and clear light covers can be reused after thorough cleaning. You can also purchase cost-effective sponge refill packs at a discounted price from our official website, or the store where you purchased your hydroponic system.
Can I transplant the sponge and the plants from the hydroponic system into soil?
When the roots of the plants are well developed (visible white roots extending from the sponge), you can transplant them from the hydroponic system to other pots or garden soil. All our sponges are made of biocarbon material, which is biodegradable in soil and does not harm the environment. Therefore, transplanting the plants along with the sponge can enhance their survival rate. Please ensure to minimize pruning and damage to the roots when removing the sponge from the white basket, to maintain the plants in good condition.
The LED light is not turning on.
The LED light will only turn on during the set times. Please check if the current time is within the scheduled working hours, and also ensure that the connection of the LED light pole is secure. If your LED light is malfunctioning, please take pictures and send them to us, and we will resolve the issue as soon as possible.
The ratio of nutrient solution to water, and the choice of water.
The ratio of Letsprouting's plant food to water is 5mL of A & B each per 1L of water. Ordinary tap water can usually be used. If the water quality is uncontrollable or there is a need to adjust trace elements, consider using purified water.
How do I clean my water tank?
If you notice dirt or debris in the water tank, we recommend wiping the interior with a soft, damp cloth or wet wipe.
- Turn off the power, unplug the power cord,
- Remove the light panel and the telescopic rod.
Rinse the water tank with clean water. Avoid using detergents, as they may negatively affect plant growth. During the cleaning process, ensure that the light panel, telescopic rod, and power interface do not come into contact with water to avoid damaging the circuitry. Additionally, try to prevent the hydroponic system's screen (MAX/PRO) from coming into direct contact with water.
How to clean my water pump?
Under normal use, the water pump does not require regular cleaning. We recommend cleaning the pump and its filter sponge after at least six months of use. If you wish to clean the water pump, please follow these steps:
- Turn off the power and unplug the power cord.
- Press the latch on the side of the pump to open the pump cover.
- Remove the sponge in front of the pump and rinse it thoroughly with clean water. Avoid using detergents as they may disrupt the nutrient balance. If the sponge is very dirty, you can also consider soaking the entire pump in clean water and gently shaking it to remove any debris, thus rinsing the whole pump.
- Reassemble the components and restart the machine.
If you need instructions for disassembling the pump for a thorough cleaning, please contact us or refer to the following steps: Images & Videos (Click to view how to clean the Letsprouting water pump) .
The water pump is not working.
The water pump operates automatically for 30 minutes and then pauses for 30 minutes. It will start its cycle automatically when the device is powered on, and its silent design makes it barely noticeable when it's working. There might be a slight vibration on the outer wall of the water tank while the pump is running. If your water pump experiences a malfunction, it's often due to impurities or blockage within the water tank, such as roots clogging the pump. You can remove the sponge, rinse it with clean water, and reset it to resolve this issue. If you wish to perform a more thorough cleaning of your water pump, you can refer to the following steps:(Click to view) . If your water pump still doesn't work after cleaning, please contact us, and we will promptly assist you in resolving the problem.
Will personalized settings be saved if the device loses power or is turned off?
Once the hydroponic system is successfully connected to Wi-Fi, the settings will be retained even in the event of a power outage. However, if the system has never been connected to Wi-Fi and the application, it will revert to the default settings after losing power.
What is the proper way to apply stickers?
Stick it on top of the sponge pod where the seed has been placed, remove the central circle, and finally put on the transparent cover. No need to remove the remaining sticker as plants will grow through it, the sticker around the pod is to prevent green alage.
